Would you like to learn more about spiritual warfare and the Catholic Church's role in it? Join me and Fr. Chad Ripperger, PhD, from the Diocese of Tulsa, OK on June 5th 6th and 7th 2015. Fr. Ripperger is a Theologian, Thomistic Psychologist, Philosopher, Seminary Professor and Author. Fr. Ripperger will be speaking here at St. Agnes Cathedral (Pallotti Center) the first weekend in June. Topics will include:

“Yea; the hour cometh, that whosoever killeth you, will think that he doth a service to God.” Jesus Christ made the above statement to His disciples while exhorting them to remain faithful to Him under the persecutions which they were to endure. Many Christians today continue to act this way! They kill their own souls by losing the grace of God through human respect and to please worldly friends!

Human respect is a great enemy of our salvation! Many souls are in Hell due to human respect! We cannot allow ourselves to be influenced by human respect!

We must avoid familiarity with scandalous sinners. St. Paul says: “But now I have written to you not to keep company...with such an one, not as much as to eat.” 1Cor. 5:11. We must always be on guard against intimacy with such sinners, lest through human respect and fear of contradicting them, we will imitate their example and lose the friendship of God.

Be vigilant. To save one's soul we must overcome human respect. It is impossible to follow God Almighty and not be persecuted. “The wicked loathe them that are in the right way.” Prov. 29:27. Sinners hate the sight of a man who lives according to the Gospel because his life is a continual contradiction to their sinful conduct. Do not be influenced by them and do not associate with them! Worldlings speak no language than that of the world.

Mass on Friday, July 4 will be followed by adoration of the Blessed Sacrament and benediction.

The Magisterium of the Church, in the First Vatican Council, defined the doctrine of the primacy of Peter and his successors in these terms:

“We teach and declare, therefore, according to the testimony of the Gospel that the primacy of jurisdiction over the whole Church was immediately and directly promised to and conferred upon the blessed Apostle Peter by Christ the Lord. For Simon, Christ had said, 'You shall be called Cephas' (Jn 1:42). Then, after Simon had acknowledged Christ with the confession, 'You are the Christ, the Son of the living God' (Mt 16:16), it was to Simon alone that the solemn words were spoken by the Lord: 'Blessed are you, Simon Bar-Jona. For flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but my Father who is in heaven. And I tell you, you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the powers of hell shall not prevail against it. I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven, and whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven, and what you loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven' (Mt 16: 17-19).”

We are bound to believe that Christ Himself gave to Peter the authority of Prince of the Apostles as the visible head over the whole Church militant. Whoever succeeds Peter in this Chair holds Peter's primacy over the whole Church according to the plan of Christ Himself!

There will be no Latin Mass on Tuesday, October 1st.

The Holy Sacrifice of the Mass is a prayer! It must be offered with attention and devotion. The ritual is actually a collection of prayers. All who participate must be sure that they remain attentive in the sacrifice and the sacred mysteries that are occurring. This does not necessarily translate into being more physically active. Man is a creature of habit. It is possible to be physically active in something while the interior life is not at all connected with the activity. Therefore a ritual should be designed to maintain the attention of the faithful. Again, this does not mean it must be active and verbal. Rather the ritual should be one of profound beauty that will naturally draw the worshipper to its contemplation. It should not be chatty and activist in nature so as to cause distractions that make it difficult for someone to maintain focus on God. Motion by nature draws our attention; therefore activity can distract our focus. Our attention should not be drawn to motion, but to God. This is why a ritual should not be activist in nature.

The essential fruit of the Mass has its immediate and only source in the self-immolation of Christ, and is, therefore, independent of the contents of the formulas of the Mass Rite of the Church. The accidental fruit derived from the ritual of the Mass is something real and therefore must be taken seriously by those whose task it is to protect and administer the sacraments, namely the Magisterium.

There will be no Latin Mass from Thursday, September 20th through Wednesday, September 26th, with the exception of Sunday, September 23rd. The Celebrant for the Sunday Mass on the 23rd will be Father William Hogdson.

When the Lord spoke to Moses on Mt. Sinai, Moses asked that he might see the divine glory. The Lord responded: “I will make all my beauty pass before you…but my face you cannot see, for no man sees me and still lives…” (Ex 33. 18-23). The infinite God, the God of ineffable glory, is so far above all creatures, that the human creature, by its natural powers, can never behold Him as He is. In the New Testament, the Epistle of Blessed Saint Paul to Timothy reiterates this teaching: “(God) is King of kings and Lord of lords. He alone possesses immortality, dwelling in unapproachable light. No one has ever seen or ever can see Him. To Him be honor and might forever! Amen” (1 Tim 6.15f). John 1.18 speaks in the same vain.

Yet Jesus promises, “Blest are the single-hearted, for they shall see God” (Mt 5.8); and Paul, in enumerating the gifts that God bestows upon His beloved, speaks of the immediate vision of God as His ultimate gift: “Now we see indistinctly, as in a (dark) mirror; then we shall see face to face. My knowledge is imperfect now; then I shall know even as I am known” (1 Cor 13.12).

John tells us that we cannot imagine what God has in store for us who are His children, but this we know, that we shall see Him as He is: “Dearly beloved, we are God’s children now; what we shall later be has not yet come to light. We know that when it comes to light we shall be like Him, for we shall see Him as He is” (1 Jn 3.2). Notice that John says, “We shall be like Him, for we shall see Him as He is.” It is because we are made like God, sharing in His divine nature (cf. 2 Pet 1.4), that we shall be able to see God as He sees Himself!

Jesus sincerely loved His own people. He worked countless miracles on their behalf to prove He was the Son of God and the Messiah spoken of in the Scriptures. But the Jewish people did not appreciate the grace that Jesus Christ offered them. The religious leaders rejected Him and called for His crucifixion.

Christ has instituted the sacraments for our benefit. He comes to each of us particularly through them. He teaches us through the magisterium of His Church. He constantly forgives our failings. We must never take His presence for granted or reject Him altogether.

In the Gospel Christ throws out of the temple the buyers and sellers. He reminds them that the temple is a house of prayer. We should realize that prayer is the first way that we invite Christ into our hearts. It is through prayer that we are strengthened and become more disposed to receive grace. We must never neglect our prayer!
