...And Jesus saith to Simon: Fear not, from henceforth thou shalt catch men...We must be completely convinced of our own weakness and inability before Our Lord will permit us to have any success. God will only come to our aid when we are aware of our willingness to openly admit our poverty. God wants us to have a great faith in Him. We must never trust in our own strength, but rather we must always have complete confidence in Almighty God!

“O Lord, you are my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear?” If a battle should rise up against me, in this will I be confident...You protect me in the secret place of Your tabernacle...As soon as God sees us totally convinced of our nothingness, He comes to our aid! All we have to do is humble ourselves and admit all our imperfections...This is the key to holiness!

“Abide in Me and I in you,” says Jesus (Jn 15:4). Then Jesus instituted the Eucharist for the purpose of nourishing our life of union with Him! Each time we approach the Holy Eucharist, Jesus rekindles in us the fire of His love! When we are united to Him we can accomplish anything! Without Him, we can do nothing!


Effective Tuesday, June 30th 2015 the daily Mass in the Extraordinary Form will be at 6:30am. There will no longer be Mass in the Extraordinary Form at 12:15pm beginning on June 30th, 2015.

The next pot-luck dinner is scheduled for Sunday, September 14th immediately following the 2:30pm Mass in the school cafeteria.

Jesus Christ has certainly done all things well. He was very often found healing the sick, curing diseases and bringing comfort to those who were physically challenged. He made the deaf hear and the dumb speak. He raised people from the dead. He constantly sought to draw sinners to Himself. His heart burned for others to believe in Him for who He was.

Even more important than physically healing His followers, Christ often forgave sinners and pointed out to them their new life in Him. Christ continues to draw all who choose to believe in Him to Himself. For those who possess a lively faith, Christ invites them to an even more intimate union with Him! This is what His heart desires! We were born to be with our God. He has come among us in the person of Jesus Christ and yet so many people are indifferent to all His favors and benefits!

Jesus Christ suffered and died for us to reconcile us to His Father. His desire to be with us and dwell peacefully in our hearts is so strong that He makes Himself miraculously present in the Blessed Sacrament of the Altar! If this were not enough, Christ even commands that we eat His Flesh and drink His Blood, found literally present in the Holy Eucharist! How many people remain cold toward the God that created them and wants to be with them?!

It is true that none of us are worthy of such an intimate union, but Christ has come for sinners! The more we frequent the sacraments with the dispositions of humility and a desire for conversion, the less unworthy we become of receiving Jesus Christ. Christ waits for us. He is a gentleman. He will not force Himself upon us. Choose for Christ today!

Surrender to Christ

Christ is faithful and will never abandon us. We should treat Him as our best of friends. The reason we were born was to ultimately be with Him in heaven. As Christians, we live in this world, but are not of this world. Our true home is in heaven. We should therefore constantly strive to obtain eternal life. In order to do so we must rely on the grace provided by Jesus Christ. We cannot merit heaven on our own because of our fallen nature.

We should have recourse to the Blessed Virgin Mary always and beg her to come to us along with her son Jesus Christ. We should ask with confidence. Christ comes to us in the Blessed Sacrament and we may receive Him whenever we wish. He gives us His Flesh and Blood and no enemy in the world can touch us when we have the Son of God on our side!

Let us surrender ourselves completely to Jesus Christ. Let us ask the Blessed Virgin Mary to draw us closer to Him. Let us allow the will of Christ to always work in and through us as His followers.

Grace

Grace is what makes us whole. Grace is what heals our ills. Grace is what allows us to become holy. Grace is a gift from God. We receive grace according to the capacity with which we allow ourselves to be disposed to do so. Open up your heart. Beg God for a share in the same graces He gave to the Blessed Virgin Mary.

Believe firmly in what is not seen by the eyes. There is much more than what the eyes of your body reveal. What is seen belongs to this world, but what is not seen belongs to our true homeland in heaven. Be always ready to receive the giving of grace!

Thank you to Jim Gillett who planned and organized the Procession of the Blessed Sacrament through the streets of Springfield! Thanks to all of you who participated and were involved in making this event with the Bishop a great success!

The Feast of the Sacred Heart of Jesus should prompt us to remember the infinite love which Jesus Christ shows us in the Blessed Sacrament of the Altar. When we consider the life of Christ-- His suffering, passion and death, we must realize He didn’t stop giving of Himself after He wrought our redemption. He instituted the Eucharist before He died so that He could be with us until the end of time.

Christ gave His life for us on the cross. He continues always to give of Himself in the Blessed Eucharist. In so doing He shares with us all of His blessings! “Come to me all you that labor and are burdened, and I will refresh you.” (Matt. 11:28). Christ gives Himself to us to be our strength and nourishment! When we possess Jesus Christ we possess all things!

Friday, June 15, 2012: A plenary indulgence may be gained by saying the Act of Reparation to the Sacred Heart of Jesus publicly in front of the Blessed Sacrament today. I will lead those who attend Mass on the Feast of the Sacred Heart in prayer before the Blessed Sacrament Exposed. Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament will continue for a period followed by Benediction.

Corpus Christi is a special day in the life of the Church. What an infinite treasure Christ has bestowed upon us in giving Himself in the Blessed Sacrament! Our Lord Jesus Christ is truly present—Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity in the consecrated host. The words of our Savior are clear: “Take ye and eat, this is my Body, which shall be delivered for you…This chalice is the new testament in My Blood; this do ye, as often as you shall drink, for the commemoration of Me.”

We must take great pains to consume the Body and Blood of Christ in a worthy manner, lest we be guilty of the Body and Blood of the Lord. Saint Paul is very explicit when he says: “For he that eateth and drinketh unworthily, eateth and drinketh judgment to himself, not discerning the Body of the Lord!”

Jesus says in the Gospel: “My Flesh is meat indeed, and My Blood is drink indeed. He that eateth My Flesh, and drinketh My Blood, abideth in Me, and I in him…He that eateth this bread shall live for ever!”

Jesus Christ speaks very clearly when He says in the Gospel that the Holy Ghost will teach all the truth. If one wishes to be fully incorporated into the Church of Christ one must embrace the entire system of the Catholic Church:

They are fully incorporated into the society of the Church who, possessing the Spirit of Christ, accept her entire system and all the means of salvation given her, and through union with her visible structure are joined to Christ, who rules her through the Supreme Pontiff and the bishops. This joining is effected by the bonds of professed faith, of the sacraments, of ecclesiastical government, and of communion. (LG 14b-366)

To be fully incorporated into the Church one must be united to it by all of the bonds, interior and exterior. The interior bonds of the Holy Ghost include sanctifying grace, faith, hope and love. The exterior bonds include the same professed faith, sacraments, government, and communion.

Pray for Christian unity.

Christ came to re-establish peace and unity. He founded one Church with one visible head, namely Saint Peter. It should be our constant prayer and desire that everyone should be united with the true Church. Just as Jesus Christ was sent by the Father, so He in turn sent His apostles who were filled with the Holy Ghost. Their mission was to proclaim that mankind had been freed from Satan’s power through the Resurrection of Jesus Christ.

Since the day of Pentecost Christ’s Church has always gathered together to celebrate the paschal mystery. In so doing, we proclaim Christ’s death until He comes again. We proclaim Christ’s victory over death and thank God for His gift of Jesus Christ.

Mass

Tomorrow we celebrate the Solemnity of Corpus Christi. We will process with our Lord through the streets to honor the true presence of Christ in the Eucharist-Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity. However, before the procession takes place we of course will offer the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass. Regarding the Mass, The General Instruction of the Roman Missal states:

At the Last Supper Christ instituted the paschal sacrifice and banquet by which the sacrifice of the cross is continuously made present in the Church whenever the priest, representing Christ the Lord, carries out what the Lord Himself did and handed over to his disciples to be done in His memory. (GIRM 72)

Therefore the procession and the Mass remind us that the Holy Sacrifice is much more than an event that simply happened at a point in history 2000 years ago. Rather, at each Mass the same sacrifice of the Cross is "made present" although in an unbloodied manner. What a tremendous and awe inspiring event! Furthermore, we have the opportunity to participate in it as often as we wish! The role of the priest in this sacrifice is pivotal. Although Christ is present in the entire gathered assembly, there can be no Eucharistic sacrifice without the priest.

As the priest ascends the altar he, like Christ, mounts the wood of the cross. This is exactly why the priesthood cannot be viewed as simply a "functional" role. As we close out this year for the priest, we should continue to keep in mind the grandeur of the priesthood. We cannot think of the Mass as simply something the priest "does," or as a function he performs. This is a misunderstanding of the divine mysteries present in the sacrament. We cannot begin to comprehend the grandeur of the priestly calling.

I have printed on one of my ordination cards a quote from Thomas A Kempis: "Great is this mystery, and great the dignity of priests, to whom that is given which is not granted to angels." Ex opere operato means that the grace of the sacrament is conferred regardless of the sanctity of the priest. In other words, the primacy of the action is the person of Christ, not in His ministers. However, the integrity and sanctity of the priest are nevertheless very important. Although the sacrament will be conferred regardless, we must always remember to look carefully at the role of the person of the priest in whom Christ is acting.

Many of us have experienced the great good that one priest can do. We have only to look to the Cure of Ars whom our Holy Father has held up this year as the patron of all priests. On the other hand, many of us have witnessed what great harm a priest can do when his actions are scandalous. Pope Benedict XVI once said "It is more important to have good priests than to have many priests."

Although the "year for priests" is coming to a close, we must always pray for the sanctity of our priests. We must pray for our own sanctity as well. I encourage you to take the opportunity of celebrating Corpus Christi with the intention of conforming our lives more closely to Christ and His saints.

Corpus Christi 2

The feast of Corpus Christi allows us the opportunity to focus solely on the Eucharist. Praying to Christ before the Blessed Sacrament has always drawn me closer to Him. It is why I became a priest and what sustains me in my priestly ministry. When a priest offers the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass, he does so as one who is uniquely configured to the person of Christ. The Eucharist calls the priest to holiness. It is the most efficacious grace to that end for all of us. As I strive toward holiness of life, I offer the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass each day. Therefore, I am transformed into the One whom I love. Each day I ascend the altar I pronounce the words:

"HOC EST ENIM CORPUS MEUM"

I invite you to join me and the Latin Mass Community of Springfield, MO this Sunday, June 6th 2010 at 2:30pm at the Cathedral of Saint Agnes as we celebrate the External Solemnity of Corpus Christi with Mass followed by a procession of the Blessed Sacrament.

Corpus Christi

Today is the feast of Corpus Christi. In light of Saint Paul's words as he addressed the Corinthians, we owe Christ the utmost reverence in the Blessed Sacrament of the Altar. We must always approach the Sacrament of The Eucharist with reverence and awe, especially when we receive our Lord in the Eucharist. In fact, Saint Paul writes that we bring condemnation upon ourselves when we receive the Eucharist unworthily.
